Cantique de Noël' (O Heilige Nacht) ist ein Weihnachtslied, das der französische Komponist Adolphe Adam 1847 zum Gedicht'Minuit, Chrétiens' (Mitternacht, Christen) von Placide Cappeau (1808-1877), einem Weinhändler und Dichter, komponierte, der von einem Pfarrer gebeten worden war, ein Weihnachtsgedicht zu schreiben. Sowohl im französischen Original als auch in den beiden bekannten englischen Versionen des Liedes reflektiert der Text die Geburt Jesu und die Erlösung der Menschheit. Cantique de Noël' wurde zu einem der beliebtesten Weihnachtslieder, sowohl in der französischen als auch in der englischen Version (O Holy Night).

Cantique de Noël (O Holy Night) is a Christmas carol composed by French composer Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the poem 'Minuit, Chrétiens' (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877), a wine merchant and poet, who had been asked by a parish priest to write a Christmas poem. In both, the French original and in the two familiar English versions of the carol, the text reflects on the birth of Jesus and of mankind's redemption.
