Arthur Benjamin (1893-1960) war ein australischer Komponist, Pianist, Dirigent und Lehrer. Er ist vor allem als Komponist der 1938 komponierten 'Jamaikanischen Rumba' bekannt. Er war ein brillanter Lichtmusikkomponist, aber auch ein tief berührender, ernsthafter Symphoniker. 1951 komponierte er eine Suite für zwei Klaviere mit alten Geigenmelodien aus Amerika und Kanada, den'North American Square Dance'. Es war Benjamin selbst, der diese Suite später für ein volles Orchester instrumentierte, und diese Suite ist als eines seiner bekanntesten Werke geblieben.

In 1951 he composed a suite for two pianos on old fiddle tunes from America and Canada, the 'North American Square Dance'. It was Benjamin himself who orchestrated this suite later for a full orchestra and this suite has remained as one of his best known works.
