Time Journey for Windband is educatief van karakter en bedoelt als een muzikale kennismaking met het Harmonieorkest voor Jong en oud. Het werk werd geschreven in opdracht van de Marinierskapel der Koninklijke Marine in het kader van een serie concerten voor schoolkinderen. Aan de hand van een verteller maken we kennis met de diverse instrumenten die deel uitmaken van het Harmonieorkest om vervolgens een muzikale tijdreis door verschillende eeuwen en genres te maken. Evenals in de onvolprezen compositie “The Young Person's guide to the orchestra” van de Engelse componist Benjamin Britten
een muzikale kennismaking met het Symfonieorkest, vormt het thema van Henry Purcell uit diens toneelmuziek voor Abdelazer het thematische uitgangspunt voor de Time Journey. We horen dit thema in zijn geheel aan het begin van de compositie. De hierop volgende instrumentale- en genreachtige delen zijn gebaseerd op losse motieven uit de compositie van Purcell. With the help of a storyteller, we are introduced to the various instruments, part of a concertband to travel in time through different centuries and musical genres. Just as in the unsurpassed composition “The Young Person’s guide to the orchestra”, a musical introduction to the symphonic orchestra of the English composer Benjamin Britten. The theme of Henry Purcell
from his play for Abdelazer
forms the starting point for the Time Journey. We hear this theme in its entirety at the beginning of the composition. The following instrumental and genre-like parts are based on single motifs from the composition of Purcell. The tekst has been written by voice artist and poet Frans LimburgThis is rental music.
