Exodus Ivo Kouwenhoven
The composition Exodus tells the well-known Bible story about Moses, who together with the people from Israel travel through the Red Sea and its parted waters. The Pharaoh follows with his army, but after the last Israelite reaches the other side of the sea the water returns and the Pharaoh and his entire army drown. After that, the entire people of Israel sing a song for the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously.
Narrator (bar 9 19)
The Bible tells in Exodus 14 how the Israelites, after leaving Egypt, arrived at the Red Sea. The Israelites see the Egyptians approaching, but God commands Moses to stretch out his staff and divide the sea. God sends a strong wind and the Israelites enter the sea on dry ground, the water like a wall on the right and left sides. The Egyptians follow, but God commands Moses to stretch out his staff again, and the waters return, covering the Pharaoh and his entire army.
Narrator (bar 43)
Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD: Ashira L'Adonai, (I will sing to the LORD), Ki gaoh gaah, (for he has triumphed gloriously). Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Moses and Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and danced together. And Miriam sang to them: Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously.
