In 1979 voltooide Johan de Meij zijn eerste compositie, een kort, driedelig werk voor zeskoperblazers, getiteld Patchwork: een lappendeken van muzikale ideetjes die toentertijd in zijnhoofd speelden. Patchwork is geschreven en opgedragen aan het Haags Koper Sextet, lateromgedoopt in the Dutch Brass Sextet. Hij heeft gedurende 14 jaar als trombonist eneuphoniumspeler met heel plezier en toewijding in dit fantastische ensemble gespeeld, mettientallen concerten in binnen? en buitenland, radio? en televisieoptredens, en LP? en CD opnames.Eenenveertig jaar later, midden in de Covid?19 pandemie, met plotseling heel veel vrije tijd, kwam hijtijdens het opruimen en sorteren van zijn manuscripten zijn eersteling weer tegen, en besloot om hetweer eens ter hand te nemen. Het resultaat is Patchwork Restitched geworden, in de nieuweorkestraties voor harmonie? en fanfareorkest. Hier en daar met wat herstelwerk in articulaties,fraseringen en tempoaanduidingen, maar de prille charmes van zijn jeugdwerk zijn intact gebleven.Molenaar Edition is enthousiast over de samenwerking met Johan de Meij en verheugd om Johansallereerste compositie opnieuw uit te geven in een fantastische nieuwe versie voor harmonie enfanfare.Patchwork

Johan has played Trombone and Euphonium with great pleasure in this extraordinaryensemble for 14 years, performing in numerous national and international concerts on radio andtelevision and recording several LPs and CDs.Suddenly ? as a result of the Covid?19 pandemic forty?one years later ? he had a lot of spare time andwhen sifting through his manuscripts he came across his firstling and decided to take it up. This led toPatchwork Restitched with new instrumentations for concert band and fanfare band. Withoccasionally some repairs on articulation, phrasing and tempo indication, the early charms of thisyouth work remain intact.Molenaar Edition is very pleased to continue cooperating with Johan de Meij and publishing his veryfirst composition in a wonderful new version for concert band and fanfare band.

1979 vollendete Johan de Meij seine erste Komposition, ein kurzes, dreiteiliges Werk für sechs Blechblasinstrumente mit dem Titel Patchwork: ein Flickenteppich aus musikalischen Ideen, die zu dieser Zeit in seinem Kopf spielten. 41 Jahre später, mitten in der Pandemie, stieß er beim Aufräumen seiner Manuskripte wieder auf sein Erstlingswerk und beschloss, es erneut aufzugreifen. Das Ergebnis ist Patchwork Restitched, in der neuen Orchestration für Harmonie- und Fanfarenorchester.
