Joseph Lanner (1801-1843) war ein österreichischer Tanzmusikkomponist. Er ist vor allem als einer der ersten Wiener Komponisten in Erinnerung geblieben, der den Walzer von einem einfachen Bauerntanz zu etwas reformierte, an dem sich auch die höchste Gesellschaft erfreuen konnte, entweder als Begleitung zum Tanz oder um der Musik willen. Er war ebenso berühmt wie sein Freund und musikalischer Rivale Johann Strauss I. Lanners Tarantel-Galoppe Opus 125 ist - für die damalige Zeit - ein 'wilder' Galopp, der in das Finale eines Walzers oder als eigenständiges Werk eingefügt wurde. Er war vor allem bei den jungen Ballgästen und Besuchern beliebt und wurde erstmals im Karneval 1838 gespielt.

Joseph Lanner (1801-1843) was an Austrian dance music composer. He is best remembered as one of the earliest Viennese composers to reform the waltz from a simple peasant dance to something that even the highest society could enjoy, either as an accompaniment to the dance, or for the music's own sake. He was just as famous as his friend and musical rival Johann Strauss I. Lanner's Tarantel-Galoppe Opus 125 is - for those days - a 'wild' galop, inserted in the finale of a waltz or as a separate work. It was popular, especially the by the young ball guests and visitors and played first in the carnival in 1838.
