"Jig" was commissioned by the Craig Middle School Band in Indianapolis, IN. The conductor, Karen Cole, asked that I write a work to exploit her large and active percussion section, along with their brand new marimba. The work is not a traditional jig, beyond its time signature, but does have a consistent upbeat, dance-like feel. It also encourages students to whistle, cheer, clap hands, stomp feet, and otherwise participate in the youthful, celebratory character of the music.
