Uncle Lumpy's Garage Timothy Mahr / Arr. Jenna Mahr

[EN]This is the second collaboration between Dr. Timothy Mahr, a member of the music faculty at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he conducts the St. Olaf Band and teaches conducting, composition, and music education and Jenna Mahr, his daughter. Uncle Lumpy's Garage is a fantasy piece that is lots of fun to perform. It allows the percussion section to explore new sound sources in addition to traditional ones, and it features rhythmically punctuated materials from the winds. One might imagine an older man (don't we all know an "Uncle Lumpy?") working diligently in his garage, tinkering and hammering away, trying to make the machines of his life work again, and perhaps inventing some of his own. This is definitely a challenge, but worth every minute spent!
[DE]Dies ist die zweite Zusammenarbeit zwischen Dr. Timothy Mahr, Mitglied der Musikfakultät des St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, wo er die St. Olaf Band dirigiert und Dirigieren, Komposition und Musikpädagogik unterrichtet, und Jenna Mahr, seiner Tochter. Uncle Lumpy's Garage ist ein Fantasiestück, dessen Aufführung viel Spaß macht. Es erlaubt der Schlagzeuggruppe, neben den traditionellen auch neue Klangquellen zu erforschen, und es enthält rhythmisch unterbrochenes Material von den Bläsern. Man könnte sich einen älteren Mann vorstellen (kennen wir nicht alle einen "Onkel Lumpi"?), der fleißig in seiner Garage tüftelt und hämmert und versucht, die Maschinen seines Lebens wieder zum Laufen zu bringen und vielleicht sogar selbst welche zu erfinden. Das ist definitiv eine Herausforderung, aber jede Minute, die man damit verbringt, ist es wert!
