Davis Carl geb. in New York City, 28. Oktober 1936. Nach Studien bei Paul Nordoff und Hugo Kauder am New England Conservatory und am Baird College sowie bei Per Norgaard in Kopenhagen, begann er die Dirigentenlaufbahn an der New York City Opera. Seit 1959 wandte er sich daneben der Komposition von Bühnen-, Rundfunk- und Fernsehmusik zu. In seinem Schaffen finden sich Symphonien, ein Klarinetten-Konzert sowie Flöten-Variationen. 1991 arbeitete er mit Paul McCartney an der weltweit erfolgreichen Produktion von Paul McCartney´s LiverpoolOratorio zusammen.
