geb. in Florenz, 28. November 1632, +Paris, 22. März 1687. Am französischen Hof ausgebildet, zeigte er früh musikalisches Talent. 1653 ernannte ihn König Ludwig XIV. zum Hofkomponisten. Nun gewann er mehr und mehr an Ansehen und schuf Instrumental und Opernwerke, die ihn zum führenden Komponisten seiner Zeit in Frankreich werden ließen.
