The richness of the music of the sub-contient is an eternal inspiration, showing music to be the fusion and balance of opposites: improvisation and calculation, freedom and form, rhythm and melody.
Indian musical thinking has acted through the centuries as a model for articulating thought through sound.
I have based my piece on an Indian temple dance in which a short motivic nugget generates garlands and trails of sonic colour.
The raga-form is maintained, with an intruduction comprizing a presentation of the scale-material, out of which the sonic nugget is forged.
The work was premiered by The Norwegian Navy Band Bergen conducted by Peter Szilvay in 2007.

This new version was edited by the composer in 2015.

[NO]Subkontinentets rikholdige musikkuttrykk er en evig inspirasjon med sin sammenblanding og balanse av motsetninger; improvasasjon og beregning, frihet og form og rytme og melodi.
Indisk musikk har gjennom århundrer hatt et særegent lyduttrykk, noe denne komposisjonen også bygger på.
«Bengalsk lys» bygger på en indisk tempeldans hvor noen korte motiver genererer kranser og stier av soniske farger.
Den indiske ragaformen er ivaretatt gjennom en innledning bestående av en presentasjon av skalamaterialet som de soniske klasene av temaer er smidd ut av.
Verket ble urfremført i 2007 av Forsvarets Musikkorps Vestlandet, Bergen dirigert av Peter Szilvay.

Denne nye utgaven ble redigert av komponisten i 2015.
