Epic Variants was commissioned for the 1st clarinet day in Anet (France), not far from La Couture-Boussey where the clarinet was first created.
The work was premiered in 2022 on may 7th by Didier Pernoit, bass clarinet soloist of the « Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France », accompanied by the concert Band of Bû, conducted by the composer.
The work is based on a theme harmonized with strong epic chord progressions, exploiting the whole register of the bass clarinet, from dark low sounds to soft higher notes.
The piece is in one part, but divided in three different moods, each thematic material being a variation from the first one.

Epic Variants a été commandée pour la 1ère journée de la clarinette à Anet (France), non loin de La Couture-Boussey où la clarinette a été créée.
L'uvre a été créée en 2022 le 7 mai par Didier Pernoit, clarinette basse soliste de l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, accompagné par l'Orchestre d'Harmonie de Bû, sous la direction du compositeur.
L'uvre est basée sur un thème harmonisé avec de fortes progressions d'accords épiques, exploitant tout le registre de la clarinette basse, des sons graves sombres aux notes aiguës douces.
La pièce est en une seule partie, mais divisée en trois ambiances différentes, chaque matériau thématique étant une variation de la première.

Epic Variants werd gecomponeerd in opdracht van de 1e klarinetdag in Anet (Frankrijk), niet ver van La Couture-Boussey waar de klarinet voor het eerst ontstond.
Het werk ging in première op 7 mei 2022 door Didier Pernoit, basklarinetsolist van het "Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France", begeleid door de concertband van Bû, onder leiding van de componist.
Het werk is gebaseerd op een thema geharmoniseerd met sterke epische akkoordprogressies, waarbij het hele register van de basklarinet wordt benut, van donkere lage klanken tot zachte hogere noten.
Het stuk bestaat uit één deel, maar is verdeeld in drie verschillende stemmingen, waarbij elk thematisch materiaal een variatie is op het eerste.
