Fanfares and Intrada for a Solemn Occasion
This powerful opening tune by the American composer Alfred reed was commissioned by the Rissho Kosei-kai Organization. The music is based on two contrasting groups of motifs.

The first group consists of a number of fanfare-like figures that immediately suggest the festive character of the piece. The second group consists of the development of a long melodic line at times interrupted by the fanfare motifs of the first group. As the figures from both groups get more interwoven, the composition returns to the impressive character of the opening and gets more powerful towards the mighty conclusion.

Diese kraftvolle Eröffnungsmelodie des amerikanischen Komponisten Alfred Reed wurde von der Organisation Rissho Kosei-kai in Auftrag gegeben. Die Musik basiert auf zwei gegensätzlichen Motivgruppen.

Die erste Gruppe besteht aus einer Reihe von Fanfaren-ähnlichen Figuren, die sofort den festlichen Charakter des Stückes andeuten. Die zweite Gruppe besteht aus der Entwicklung einer langen melodischen Linie, unterbrochen von den Fanfarenmotiven der ersten Gruppe. Wenn sich die Figuren beider Gruppen mehr miteinander verweben, kehrt die Komposition zu dem eindrucksvollen Charakter der Eröffnung zurück und wird stärker zu dem mächtigen Schluss.

Cette puissante ouverture du compositeur américain Alfred Reed est une commande de l'organisation Rissho Kosei-kai. La musique est basée sur deux groupes de motifs contrastants. Le premier groupe est composé d'un nombre de fanfares qui soulignent le caractère festif de l'uvre. Le deuxième groupe est composé d'une longue ligne mélodique interrompue de temps en temps par les motifs de fanfare du premier groupe. Dit krachtige openingswerk van de Amerikaanse componist Alfred Reed werd geschreven in opdracht van de Rissho Kosei-kai Organisatie. De muziek is gebaseerd op twee contrasterende groepen van motieven. De eerste groep bestaat uit een aantal fanfare-achtige figuren, die meteen het feestelijke karakter van het werk weergeven. De tweede groep wordt gevormd door de ontwikkeling van een lange, melodische lijn, die zo nu en dan door de fanfaremotieven uit de eerste groep verbroken wordt. Naarmate de figuren uit de beide groepen meer en meer met elkaar verweven worden, keert het werk gaandeweg terug naar het indrukwekkende karakter van de opening, en neemt telkens toe in kracht tot aan het formidabele slot.
