This new edition is based on the original edition owned by the library of the Milan Conservatory. The note text was reproduced without alteration - the only exception being the indications which could not be taken over due to the different sound effect on modern guitars. Diabelli expressly stated that the part of the first guitar, originally written for a piccolo guitar, can also be played by a normal guitar with a capodaster. The cycle of variations is structured as follows: first, there is the exposition, followed by five variations which vary in character. Both players are equally challenged. The fifth (and last) variation is quite unusual as Diabelli did not arrange it as an end stretta, but a calm Andantino pastorale instead. The variations have an intermediate level of difficulty.

La nouvelle édition présentée ici se base sur l'édition originale conservée à la Bibliothèque du Conservatoire de Milan. Le texte et les indications de dynamique sont restitués tels quels à l'exception des indications d'exécution, car les liaisons sont difficiles à transposer à la guitare moderne dû à l'effet sonore différent. Diabelli indique expressément la possibilité de jouer la partie de la première guitare (conçue pour une guitare accordée à la tierce) sur une guitare déchante ou sur une guitare munie d'un capodastre. Le cycle comprend des variations de différents caractères qui suivent l'exposition du thème no. 5, avec des exigences identiques pour les deux instrumentalistes. La cinquième et dernière variation est insolite, conçue par Diabelli non pas comme stretta finale, mais comme andantino pastorale tranquille. Le degré de difficulté est moyen.
