On 23 July 2015, NASA announced the discovery
of an earth-like planet orbiting in the inhabitable
zone of a star similar to our sun. The planet,
which is 1400 light years distant from the earth,
was discovered by the space telescope Kepler.
in a not too distant future, the spacecraft Kepler
452b, embarks on an interstellar journey to reach a new
goal for humanity
The imaginary journey, portrayed in music by the author,
begins with a fanfare that describes, in a solemn tone, the
celebration of a major event: the ship's takeoff. This section
is followed by a smoother part, where the peaceful theme of
the clarinets, then reprised by the whole ensemble, accompanies
the astronauts during their long space journey.
A section with bright tones introduces a cheerful yet restless
allegro, which conveys the emotion of the sighting
of the planet and the approach to it. Finally, the reprise of
the journey theme, enriched by the ornamentations of the
woodwinds, emphasizes the crew's emotion in reaching
the goal. In the last measures of the composition, after a
brief mention of the fanfare theme (a distant memory of the
earth), the echo of the allegro returns to show the listener
the reality that this great achievement is an open book that
still contains many unknowns.
