No other Christmas carol has been as successful throughout the world as 'Silent Night'. It is not only sung in many languages of this world but has also inspired numerous composers to write arrangements. For his choral piece 'Stille Nacht', Bertold Hummel has written three interesting, easy-to-sing variations on the song theme. He has included texts for Advent and Christmas time to be read between the music sections, thus providing a solemn song motet for contemplative hours in Advent. In the first performances of the piece in the 1970s, the role of the narrator was performed by two famous German actors: Elisabeth Flickenschildt and Heinz Rühmann.

Aucun autre chant de Noel ne peut prétendre au succès mondial de "Douce nuit, sainte nuit". Il n'est pas seulement chanté dans de nombreuses langues, il a également incité un grand nombre de compositeurs à écrire des arrangements. Bertold Hummel, pour sa pièce chorale "Stille Nacht", a composé trois variations intéressantes et faciles sur son thème. Il y a ajouté des textes pour le temps de l'Avent et de Noel à lire entre les parties musicales. Il en résulte un motet solennel pour les heures méditatives de l'Avent.
