Al Gharb is a composition based on the story of the Arabian civilization that had a significant influence on the south of Portugal (Algarve), between the VIII and the XIII century. Ruling for more than five centuries, this civilization reached a high level of culture, economy and construction in this region. This programmatic work is divided into 5 parts. The melodic/harmonic structure iis based on some exotic scales, giving it its own sound that characterizes the islamic musical culture.

Cette composition est basée sur l'histoire de la civilisation arabe qui a eu une influence importante sur le sud du Portugal (Algarve), entre le VIIIe et le XIIIe siècle. Cette civilisation a atteint un haut niveau de culture, d'économie et de construction. L'uvre est divisée en 5 mouvements. Sa structure mélodique/harmonique est basée sur certaines gammes exotiques, ce qui lui confère un son propre, caractéristique de la culture musicale islamique.

Deze compositie is gebaseerd op het verhaal van de Arabische beschaving die een belangrijke invloed had op het zuiden van Portugal (Algarve), tussen de VIIIe en de XIIIe eeuw. Deze beschavingbereikte een hoog niveau van cultuur, economie en bouw. Het werk is verdeeld in 5 delen. De melodisch/harmonische structuur is gebaseerd op enkele exotische toonladders, waardoor het zijn eigen geluid krijgt dat kenmerkend is voor de islamitische muziekcultuur.
