About Shakata: Singing the World into Existence
Dana Wilson always strives to introduce students and audiences to new ways of thinking about music and performance practices. This work serves somewhat as an incantation, a summoning up of, by means of a group music ritual, the goodness of the earth and, consequently, ourselves. Rhythmic vocalizations abound, juxtaposed with rhythmical, percussive ensemble writing. Dana Wilson is a master and his works light up any program in which they are performed.
