Located at longitudinal opposites of Scotland, Dornóch (in the Northern Highlands) and Turnberry (on the Southwest Coast) both resplendently exemplify the legendary beauty of this Old World country.

The Wind Down Dornóch Bay should be performed in a lilting, traditional 6/8 Celtic style, with the foreboding but majestic character of the North Sea represented by the accented sea-faring theme in the low brass and low woodwinds at measure 25 (joined playfully by the piccolo on the repeat). The baritone solo at 57 should be performed with a full, expressive vibrato, representing the lyric elegance of the Northern Highlands.

The capricious, unpredictable nature of the Scottish Coast climate is represented in Turnberry Cycle through the pace and frequency of the key changes. A common theme is prevalent throughout each key change, in homage to the predominant and never-ending beauty of this part of Scotland.

Meant to be performed in tandem, each movement of A Scottish Pair is also suitable for presentation as a separate piece unto itself.
