Tulsa - A Symphonic Portrait In Oil

Tulsa - A Symphonic Portrait In Oil Don Gillis / Arr. Maurice Ford

Tulsa was commissioned by the First National Bank and Trust Company in Tulsa and was completed for the local Philharmonic Orchestra in 1950 and arranged for wind orchestra in 1957.

This typical tone painting, which describes the city of Oklahoma, is composed of four parts, the first of which, with its pastoral character, describes the untouched nature of the vast country before the White invasion.
In the second section, the conquest and occupation should be described. The transformation of wilderness into a modern civilization determines the sound.
The bubbling oil spring, symbolizing the intoxication of black gold, dominates the third part and with a boisterous parade through the streets of Tulsa, the work comes to an end.
