Le célèbre Sonnet 116 de William Shakespeare (« Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments » ; « À l'union sacrée de deux âmes sincères, jamais / Je n'y trouverai d'obstacle ») est souvent invoqué lors de mariages religieux ou civils.
