Vienna, March - April,1816. Franz Schubert writes his Sonatas for pianoforte accompanied by a violin. 1816 was a particulary disappointing year for Schubert. A modest music teacher's employment in Laibach is given to sombody else. A first book of songs sent to Goethe by his friend Spaun comes back without comment. Not even his friends asked for his sonatas, let alone publishers. His brother Ferdinand finds them among his unpublished work: Three easy, beautiful sonatas for piano and violin. As an extra to 50 song books he sells them to Anton Diabelli who publishes the pieces in 1836, eight years after Schubert's death, under the title Sonatinas.

Franz Schubert écrivit ses Sonates pour le pianoforte avec accompagnement de violon en 1816, une année riche en déceptions pour lui. Un modeste poste de professeur de musique à Laibach fut occupé autrement, un premier cahier de lieder envoyé à Goethe fut retourné sans commentaires. Même son cercle d'amis ne s'intéressait pas à ses sonates. Son frère Ferdinand les trouva dans l'inventaire de la succession. Il vendit les Trois très belles sonates faciles pour piano et violon à Anton Diabelli qui les publia en 1836, huit ans après la mort de Schubert, sous le titre de Sonatines. Dans cet arrangement pour flûte et piano la fantaisie, le plaisir, l'esprit de la découverte et le respect du texte original ont trouvé leur équilibre.
