Serenade op. 74 - Variations on a theme by R. Drigo

With the classic instrumentation of the three instruments used, the composer intends to come close to the 19th century language of music and thus to the original version. According to the composer, the harlequin represents the two counterparts melancholic and cheerful - the basic idea of his work. The free introduction plus the main theme, changed in instrumentation, evokes melancholic feelings whereas the cheerful element is created by the 2nd variation of piano paraphrases.

Sérénade op. 74 - Variations sur un thème de Riccardo Drigo

Le compositeur aimerait, avec la distribution classique avec un trio de piano, rester proche du langage musical du 19ème siècle et, par conséquent, de l'original de Drigo. Selon lui, les deux poles mélancolie et sérénité constituent la base de sa composition et se retrouvent aussi dans le caractère de l'arlequin. Nous trouvons la mélancolie dans l'introduction libre et dans le thème central instrumenté et accompagné de façon modifée tandis que la sérénité apparaît dans la deuxième variation paraphrasée par le piano.
