The Death of Oscar (2012) is a miniature tone poem drawing upon the legend of the bardic poet Ossian and the death of his son Oscar. In the legends of Ossian, Oscar challenged the High King Cairbre to single combat and, though victorious, died of his wounds and was mourned by his father and lover. These tales collected by James MacPherson in the 18th century have long been debated as regards their authenticity, but what is not in doubt is the massive influence they had on perceptions of Scottish and Celtic culture, particularly overseas admired by political figures such as Napoleon and Thomas Jefferson and inspiring Romantic artists from Mendelssohn in Fingal's Cave to Goethe in Die Leiden des jungen Werther.

The Death of Oscar ( « La mort d'Oscar », 2012) est un petit tableau sonore se référant à la légende du poète et barde Ossian, et à la mort de son fils Oscar. Selon cette légende, Oskar provoque le grand roi Cairbre en combat singulier. Bien qu'Oscar en sorte vainqueur, il succombe à ses blessures et est pleuré par son père et par sa bien-aimée. Ces récits, rassemblés au XVIIIe siècle par James MacPherson, ont fait l'objet de longs débats quant à leur authenticité. Ce qui, en revanche, ne fait aucun doute est l'immense influence qu'ils ont exercée sur la représentation de la culture celtique et écossaise, tout particulièrement en Outre-Mer : ces textes ont été admirés par des personnages politiques comme Napoléon et Thomas Jefferson, et ont servi de source d'inspiration à des artistes du romantisme tels que Mendelssohn dans « Les Hébrides » ou Goethe dans « Les souffrances du jeune Werther ».
