Heartland's opening melody is simple and sweet, its harmonies pure. It evokes the calm, peaceful grandeur of America's Great Plains and those who worked them with dignity, toil and soul. A boisterous dance erupts with strong rhythms and swift motifs that pile upon each other like riffs. The opening melody returns, weaving a path through the riffs and rhythms, and eventually soaring over them as it provides a view of the heartland: wide-ranging, awe-inspiring, beautiful.
