La cumbre de Masada José Miguel Fayos-Jordán
The work, entirely programmatic, is inspired by the story of Masada. The common thread of the whole story will be the use of several leitmotifs assigned to situations, characters, etc. Thus, we find a leitmotif for the Roman Legions, another for the battle of Masada, another representing the desolation of the Jews after the destruction of Jerusalem and the walls of Masada, and a small theme which is concealed throughout the work, but which appears in full force in the last movement, symbolising the voice of a people, which has been silenced by the oppression of an Empire but which, thanks to such a courageous act, has prevailed in all its fullness throughout history. There are also quotations from Jewish folk music such as the famous hymn "Yeroushalaim Chel Zahav" and from the Gregorian sequence "Dies Irae". Hebrew words such as the name Eleazar or Yeroushalaim (the Hebrew name for Jerusalem), and Latin texts also appear, creating a mixture of the two cultures confronting each other in this story.
