Salvus Erit (marcha cristiana)

Salvus Erit (marcha cristiana) Jose Rafael Pascual-Vilaplana

This Valencian march, conceived as a Christian march for the Moors and Christians Festivities of l'Olleria, bases its name on the discovery of a seal from the Muslim period which reads: "He who believes, will be saved". In this way, the Latin name refers to this sentence common to both the Islamic and Christian religions, as a witness to the most important value of the Moorish-Christian festival: tolerance.

The thematic and rhythmic material draws from popular sources, with cells taken from different folkloric material such as: Jota de l'Olleria, Bailes de los locos, La Muixeranga, las Albaes, la Dançà valenciana, Serra de Mariola or even, El tio Pep se va a Muro in homage to the common friend of the Canet family and the composer, the festive and writer from Muro, Manuel Pérez Berenguer. It also appears as a leit-motif, the introductory motif of the Hymn of the Festival of l'Olleria by the friend and longed-for maestro Francesc Cerdà. This material is completed by a melodic interval from the Gregorian responsory "Ite in orbem universum" where the verse "Quien crederit (...) salvus erit..." appears.

The work itself is a kaleidoscope of traditional culture, folklore and liturgy, a symbiosis that defines the tradition of the Moors and Christians and identifies us as a people.
