This trio is one of her earliest published works, composed when she was only 19, following her studies with the German opera composer Friedrich von Flotow. The first of its two continuous movements is all charm and grace, with subtle chromatic modulations underlying an idyllic pastoral mood. This B flat major aubade in 6/8 leads directly to the second movement in g minor, a rustic 3/4 country dance. A virtuoso piano interlude just before the end brings to mind her early training in piano with Frédéric Chopin.
