" In France, nothing is eternal. " As with this comment from Napoleon the third, nothing is eternal in music either. Mario Bürki has, in accordance with these words, mixed the old with the new in this piece. French ideology, completely in the style of the 19th century is heard alongside more modern ideas whereupon the French (gothic) influence with short leit motifs (from Tchaikovsky's 1812 and MARSEILLAISE are always noticeable. The piece ends as it began and should thus show that the past is not to be denied. It will always exist in one's mind's eye.
