Look up to the Skies - Festive Overture

Look up to the Skies - Festive Overture Michael Zeh

Program Notes

"Look up to the skies" is a Festive Overture for Wind Band by Michael Zeh. This was commissioned by the Youth Wind Band of the Bietigheim Music School on the occasion of the orchestra trip to the USA in April 2011. Prior to the trip, conductor Ralf Janßen asked his music school teacher and composer Michael Zeh for this solemn composition to open the concert program. The concert piece begins with radiant timbres in a calm and majestic introduction which shows the image of the endless sky. From the point of view from the Earth, the human eye cannot grasp the heavens as a whole - whoever is in space, nor dimension. Michael Zeh used this fascinating fact as the basis for his composition. He created a constant alternation of powerful, but also light and playful melodic images, which he combined with his conceptions of celestial images: The sight of the night sky, which extends into boundless space and different colours of the daytime sky.
