In all movements, which are quite extended at times, the virtuoso violin is leading the ensemble whereas the other parts share the accompaniment. This composition requires an excellent violin player- what else would you expect from Paganini? The edition issued by Kurt Schumacher is the first practical one of the quartet which so far had only been available as a facsimile edition. The issue in hand was carefully prepared and edited according to the original manuscripts from Rome and it closes the gap between the seventh quartet and the ninth which are also available at Zimmermann's as well as the eleventh.

C'est le violon qui conduit l'ensemble avec beaucoup de virtuosité dans tous les mouvements, tandis que les autres parties se partagent l'accompagnement. La composition demande, comme il est usuel chez Paganini, un violoniste extraordinaire. L'édition publiée par Kurt Schumacher constitue la première édition pratique du quatuor, disponible jusqu'a présent seulement en édition fac-similé. Elle a été préparée et éditée soigneusement à partir des manuscrits originaux de Rome et complète ainsi la série des quatuors nos. 8 à 11 publiés chez Zimmermann.
