In his time, Raphael Dressler must have been a flutist of such renown that his Flute Tutor op. 68 was published nearly simultaneously by several publishers in London, Bonn and New York in 1827/28. His compositions were mainly written for and played by the flute. His Variations sur un thème hongré, re-released here for the first time, reflect the interest in Hungarian music kindled around 1790 which also left its traces in the works of Haydn, Beethoven or Schubert. The theme arranged here is not a particular piece, but rather a traditional dance melody in the Hungarian style.

Variations sur un thème hongrois op. 25

Raphael Dressler fut apparemment un flûtiste tant renommé que sa Flötenschule op. 69 fut publiée en 1827/1828 simultanément par différents éditeurs à Londres, Bonn et New York. Ses compositions comprennent en premier lieu des ?uvres pour et avec flûte. Avec les Variations sur un thème hongrois ici rééditées pour la première fois, Dressler suivit la demande pour la musique hongroise suscitée vers 1790 et ayant laissé des traces également dans les ?uvres de Haydn, Beethoven et Schubert. Le thème ici traité n'est pas une pièce particulière, mais une mélodie populaire pour une danse hongroise.
