Written as a wedding present for two of the composer's friends, Come live with me sets Christopher Marlowe's archetype of the late renaissance Pastoral Style', The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. As a nod to the great traditions of Elizabethan and Victorian partsong writing, this setting is predominantly homophonic. Taking an A-B-A-coda structure, the sweeping melody of the opening section (rising and falling like craggy mountains) is later reprieved in a more luscious harmonization, and continues to form the basis of the soprano and tenor duet during the coda. In the B section (There will I make thee beds of roses) the texture elaborates to more contrapuntal lines of dialogue between upper and lower voices, with the passion reaching a understated zenith in the soprano 1 and tenor 1 rhapsodic rising duet, under which the parts twine themselves around each other like leave of myrtle. An imaginative setting, closely allied with the text, Come live with me is an exciting addition to the contemporary repertoire of choral music on the theme of love.

Composé en cadeau de mariage pour un ami du compositeur, Come live with me met en musique le poème The Passionate Shepherd to His Love de Christopher Marlowe, un texte archétypal de la Renaissance tardive et du style pastoral. Principalement homophone, cette adaptation est pour ainsi dire un hommage aux part songs élisabéthaines et victoriennes (des mouvements de churs à quatre voix, homophones, sans accompagnement et aux textes profanes). Enchâssée dans une structure en A-B-A-coda, la mélodie fougueuse du début (qui monte et descend comme des « craggy mountains » / « des montagnes déchiquetées ») retentit plus tard dans une harmonisation exubérante, tandis qu'en même temps elle construit une base pour un duo soprano-ténor à la coda. Dans la partie B (« There will I make thee beds of roses »), la structure se transforme plutôt en un dialogue contrapuntique entre les voix hautes et basses. La passion atteint ici un paroxysme plutôt discret, où la soprane 1 et le ténor 1 se rencontrent en un duo dithyrambique et ascendant, dans lequel les autres voix s'engloutissent les unes les autres comme les « feuilles de myrte ».
