Der Werkkatalog des1929 in Stuttgart geborenen Komponisten und Organisten Reinhold Finkbeiner umfasst über siebzig Kompositionen, wobei die Orgelwerke eine gewichtige Position einnehmen. Seine Flötensonate entstand bereits 1953. Der Flötist Jens Josef, der die Sonate am 18. November 2004 in Darmstadt zusammen mit dem Pianisten Ernst Breidenbach uraufführte, schreibt im Vorwort: &? Durch die sehr intensive kontrapunktische Arbeit, die der Sonate einen stetigen musikalischen Fluss verleiht, gelingt es dem Komponisten, seine Themen und Motive durch teilweise geringe rhythmische Umakzentuierungen immer neu und erfrischend zu belichten. &? Den klassischen Qualitäten der Flöte - Anmut, Virtuosität und geschmeidiger Klang - wird in reichem Maße Rechnung getragen, doch werden sie mit einem komplexen musikalischen Satz und einem sehr eigenen Humor konfrontiert. Diese Mischung ist zweifellos eine besondere, weil ganz eigene Qualität des Werkes.

Sonata

The Composer and Organist Reinhold Finkbeiner was born 1929 in Stuttgart. His catalogue of works contains more than 70 compositions, whereof the works for organ make out the biggest part. The sonata for flute and piano was already written 1953 and was first performed by Jens Josef and Ernsta Breidenbach on 18th February 2004 in Darmstadt. The flutist Jens Josef writes in the preface of this edition: Through the intense and intricate contrapuntal work, which lends the Sonata the feeling of constant flux, the composer is able to allow his melodic themes and motives to continually shine through by using often quite subtle changes of rhythmic accent, thus keeping them ever new and fresh. Despite the very dense and complex texture of the music, the Sonata is always very transparent in timbre and also very idiomatically written for the flute. ... The classical qualities of the flute ? grace, virtuosity and a smooth sound ? are all given ample space, but they are here confronted with a complex musical texture and quite a unique sense of humor. This mixture is without question a very special and very individual quality in this work.

Grâce à un travail contrapuntique intense, qui donne à la sonate son flux musical continu, le compositeur parvient à mettre ses thèmes et ses motifs en lumière de manière rafraîchissante et toujours renouvelée... Les qualités classiques de la flûte - la grâce, la virtuosité, la souplesse du son - sont largement mises en valeur, mais elles sont confrontées à une structure musicale complexe et un humour très personnel. Ce mélange original est l'une des qualités particulières - car très personnelles - de l'?uvre.
