The Storm Has Come and Gone Roger Cichy
Based on the composer's experience during hurricane Gloria in September 1985, the thematic material was composed using both the Dorian mode and natural minor scale creating a very dark, mysterious, and suspenseful mood. Harmonic dissonances, forceful dynamics and marcato articulations are used to describe the fury and destruction of the hurricane. These episodes are offset by short, calm passages, referring to those times when everything seemed to stand still. An excellent work for concert or contest from this popular young writer. The EDU-PAK teaches modes and natural minor scale.
