[EN]Commissioned by and dedicated to the Hikarigaoka Girls' High School Wind Orchestra Director, Kentaro Hino As Sailing with Whales begins, a trumpet fanfare accompanies the men and women who leave port and set out to sea on a crisp morning to search for the majestic Orcinus orca or Orca Whale. The main theme, stated by the trombones, follows them on their journey with these apex predators that no other animal would dare prey on. This theme encompasses the thrilling search and, once found, subsequent trek with the whales in their natural habitat. The noble and majestic secondary theme captures a quieter time on the ocean as these highly social whales travel in pods to calmer waters as the sun begins to set. The next day, as the waves swell and the sailors try to keep up with the whales, the pace of the music accelerates to embody the speed of these ocean giants as they begin to move faster and faster. After a brief recapitulation of the main thematic material, the piece comes to a riveting, rhythmic conclusion, encapsulating the experience of Sailing with Whales


Sailing With Whales is a majestic work featuring heroic brass fanfares, sweeping melodic lines, lyrical themes, and energetic, rhythmic ostinati. Zu Beginn von 'Sailing with Whales' begleitet eine Trompetenfanfare die Männer und Frauen, die an einem frischen Morgen den Hafen verlassen und auf das Meer hinausfahren, um nach dem majestätischen Orcinus orca oder Orca-Wal zu suchen. Das Hauptthema, vorgetragen von den Posaunen, begleitet sie auf ihrer Reise mit diesen Apex-Raubtieren, an die sich kein anderes Tier herantrauen würde. Dieses Thema umfasst die aufregende Suche und, einmal gefunden, die anschließende Wanderung mit den Walen in ihrem natürlichen Lebensraum. Das edle und majestätische Nebenthema fängt eine ruhigere Zeit auf dem Ozean ein, wenn diese hochsozialen Wale in Schoten zu ruhigeren Gewässern reisen, während die Sonne unterzugehen beginnt. Am nächsten Tag, wenn die Wellen anschwellen und die Segler versuchen, mit den Walen Schritt zu halten, beschleunigt sich das Tempo der Musik, um die Geschwindigkeit dieser Ozeanriesen zu verkörpern, die sich immer schneller zu bewegen beginnen. Nach einer kurzen Rekapitulation des thematischen Hauptmaterials kommt das Stück zu einem fesselnden, rhythmischen Schluss, der die Erfahrung von Sailing with Whales auf den Punkt bringt
