Prolific composer Samuel Adler adds a most interesting historical footnote with this work; it is based upon what some believe to be the first truly American opera, a work entitled 'The Disappointment of The Force of Credulity,' written by one Andrew Barton in 1767. While only fragments have been uncovered, Dr. Adler has expertly adapted and expanded the melodic fragments in his own respectful and inimitable style. Ranging from scoring that is sparse to full ensemble moments, it is a very interesting and rewarding work combining Americana and contemporary music.
