This work was composed in the style of an Italian opera overture. The first part has a quick tempo and flashing dynamics, and contains some virtuoso passages. It has clearly been inspired by Rossini's music. The slow second movement is based on the popular Italian folksong 'Santa Lucia'. It looks like a serenade with trumpet and alto saxophone solos. The themes of the first movement come back in the fast final movement with a virtuoso part for the bass instruments. Cette uvre est écrite dans le style d'une ouverture d'opéra italien. La première partie au rythme rapide et à la dynamique étincelante comprend pas mal de passages virtuoses et est manifestement inspirée par la musique de Rossini. La deuxième partie, plus lente, est basée sur l'air populaire italien 'Sancta Lucia'. Elle a le caractère d'une sérénade avec des solos pour trompette et saxopho-ne alto. Les thèmes du premier mouvement sont repris dans le final rapide qui comprend une partie très virtuose pour les instruments graves. De temps en temps le compositeur a ajouté un rythme nerveux.

Dit werk is geschreven in de stijl van de Italiaanse opera ouverture. Het eerste gedeelte in een zeer snel tempo, met flitsende dynamiek en virtuoze passages, is duidelijk geïnspireerd op de muziek van Rossini. Het langzame tweede deel is gebaseerd op het bekende Italiaanse volksliedje 'Santa Lucia'. Het heeft het karakter van een serenade met soli voor trompet en altsaxofoon. In het snelle slotdeel wordt de thematiek van het eerste deel hernomen. Hierin komt een zeer virtuoos gedeelte voor de lage instrumenten. Aan het geheel is af en toe een motorisch ritme toegevoegd.
