En conmemoracion del 750 Aniversario de la conquista de Enguera por el Rey Jaume I

This work was written to commemorate the entry of the troops of James I the Conqueror, King of Aragon, into Enguera (Valencia). Sorior is the name of the first nucleus of this small town and the Order of Uclés is the Castilian order which was already settled in Enguera when James I's troops entered.
The piece is divided into four movements:

Inhalt / Content:

• Dawn: In an atmosphere of tension and uncertainty a town awakens, concerned about the latest events. A slow opening, with long chords, aims to express the mood of apprehension. Trumpet calls, from high on the battlements of the castle, introduce the main theme of Sorior, seeming to foreshadow all the coming events.

• Festivities: This movement, in a cheerful, lighthearted vein, transports us to an atmosphere of medieval celebration. The end of the occupation
is now imminent and amidst these melodies we seem to glimpse a new destiny for Christian Enguera.

• Romance: This movement depicts a love story between a Moorish girl and a Christian from the town. Their relationship did not meet with the ap-
proval of the lord of the castle, who sentenced the girl to death for breaking the law. The young man, heartbroken, preferred to take his own life rather than give in to his lord's wishes.

• Ending: James I's troops parade in triumph through the streets of Sorior riding on their steeds, all bearing the marks of the fortunes of war. Peasants, old people, children, people from the whole area receive these weary warriors who had devoted much of their lives to fighting for a people united by religion. The melodic Sorior theme reappears majestically at the end, bringing the work to a close.
The first performance was given in 1995 by the Santa Cecilia Musical
Union of Enguera. Sorior and the Order of Uclés is this composer's first
symphonic work and has been recorded more than ten times.
