The Song of Hiawatha Thomas C. Duffy
Dovetailing runs, triplets against duplets, and a hint of aleatoric groupings at the conclusion make this an exciting and, at the same time, reflective, work. Written as a tribute to our nation's immigrant traditions, it also strongly evokes images of the first Americans, the Native Americans. Here, Duffy pays particular musical homage to the latter's sense of connection with the elements and their great respect for nature.
