«Seid» (pronounced sayed was a divination ceremony practised by the Vikings which could be used to reveal knowledge of the future.
During the ceremony, woman sang incantations and the Seeress (Völva) passed into a kind of trance.
In other arctic cultures similar ceremonies took place during which the Medicine man (Sage), or Shaman, would beat a drum covered with magic runes, and he too would pass into a trance, reaching the deepest part of his own sub-consciousness - a journey beyond time and space...

Seid was commissioned by The Norwegian Band Federation and European Brass Band Assosiation for the European Brass Band Championship in 1996.
The version for Concert Band was commissioned by Frode Amundsen and Borge Musikkorps in 2018.

[NO]«Seid» (seiðr) var et hellig rituale praktisert av vikingene. Det ble brukt for å forutse fremtiden.I denne sermonien ble det sunget besvergningssanger og volva (seersken) gikk etterhvert inn i en transe.
Lignende sermonier finnes blant folk i arktiske kulturerer (bl.a. hos samene), der medisinmannen (vismannen) eller sjamanen slår på en tromme dekket med magiske symboler og synger.
Også sjamanen vil oppnå transetilstand med ønske om å finnede dypeste delene
av underbevisstheten - en reise utenfor tid og rom...

«Seid» ble bestilt av Norges Musikkorps Forbund og EBBA til EM for Brass Band i Bergen i 1996.
Versjonen for Concert Band ble bestilt av Frode Amundsen og Borge Musikkorps i 2018.
