BRASS BAND: Summer Song / Sommarsång Wilhelm Peterson-Berger / Arr. Svein Henrik Giske
He wrote about music in the paper Dagens Nyheter and was known and respected for his controversial opinions.
Through his writing, Peterson-Berger let out with established composers like Wilhelm Stenhammar, Hugo Alfvèn and Natanel Berg.
As a composer, Peterson-Berger was very influenced by Edvard Grieg and Richard Wagner. Throughout his career as composer, he always tried to unite folk music with art music.
He wrote many larger works, but his most well-known works are those of smaller scale. Especially three collections of solo piano pieces named "Frösoblomster" ("Flowers from Frösö Island") are amoung his most popular. Included in these are both "By the Church of Fröso" and "Summer song".
Around 1910 he had a summer house built at the island Frösö in Jämtland, a house he gave the name "Sommerhagen". The composer lived here permanently the last years of his life.
