Anthony Susi composer / arranger
Anthony Susi has been teaching music in Connecticut schools at the middle, high school and college level since 1985. Mr. Susi has served as a conductor for honors band festivals sponsored by the Rhode Island Massachusetts and Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA), Future Musicians Inc. (FMI), the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) the Charter Oak Music Festival (COMF) and the Quinebaug Valley Music Festival. Mr. Susi has presented many state conference workshops and contributed articles for publication in Band World, MEJ, CMEA & SBO. He has also been invited to adjudicate both jazz and concert band festivals in Connecticut.
His performing ensembles have been featured numerous times at CMEA and MENC Eastern Division Conferences and have earned Superior ratings and top honors at adjudication festivals throughout the Eastern states. Mr. Susi is the 1991 CT recipient of the Distinguished Band Directors Award. In 2000, he was recognized by CMEA & MENC as one of two "up and coming music teachers" in the state of Connecticut. Mr. Susi served as President for the CT chapter of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity from 2005 to 2007.
Outside of teaching, Mr. Susi has composed several commissioned works for high school and middle school bands in Connecticut since 1998 that have been performed by Putnam High School, Coventry High School, RHAM High School, Lyman Memorial High School, Derby High School, Bacon Academy, Laurel Music Camp, Mystic Middle School, Roger Ludlow Middle School, Bennet Middle School, Illing Middle School, Captain Nathan Hale Middle School, Future Musicians Incorporated All State Middle School Band, Western Region Middle School Concert Band, Eastern Region Middle School Concert and Jazz Bands.
Mr. Susi has also composed and recorded five CDs of original music in a variety of genres. A composition from his "New Horizons" CD, Renegade, was featured on the 1996 compilation disc by the CT Song Writers Association and Daddy's Junky Music "The Best of Connecticut & Rhode Island". The Search, from his "Endeavors of the Heart" CD, appeared on the CBS soap opera "As the World Turns".
Outside teaching and composing, he can be found performing at several venues in CT (see his performance website for upcoming shows and original adult contemporary music).
