Brian P. Drake composer
Brian Drake, a Maryland native, is currently a secondary instrumental music teacher for Carroll County (MD) Public Schools [2001-present]. Mr. Drake also held the band director position at Johns Hopkins University [2001-2008].Mr. Drake serves as a guest conductor, clinician, festival judge, award-winning arranger, and commissioned composer for several organizations in the Baltimore-Washington area. His compositions have been performed by the Peabody Conservatory Wind Ensemble, Peabody Conservatory Chamber Winds, the Towson University Concert Band, and the McDaniel College Concert Band, to name a few. Some of Mr. Drakes works are released by Grand Mesa Music Publishers and Bandworks Publications.
As an educator, Mr. Drake has been nominated several times as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Carroll County Public Schools (2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2014, 2015) and was a top eight finalist for the honor in 2011. He was the inaugural recipient of the Music Advocates of Carroll County Music Educator of the Year Award in 2012. (See interview here.) He was also nominated for the MENC/MMEA Outstanding Music Educator Award (2003).
A graduate of The Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University, Mr. Drake received both a Performers Certificate for trumpet and a Bachelors Degree in music education in the spring of 1998. Most recently, he received his Masters Degree in Music Education from Peabody in 2009.
Mr. Drake is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), American Composers Forum (ACF), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and Maryland Band Directors Association (MBDA).
