Jim Engebretson composer / arranger

Jim Engebretson graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and received his master's degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He taught in New Richland, MN and East High School in Des Moines before joining the Mounds View School District staff in 1961 until his retirement in 1993.

Jim has studied horn with J. Christopher Leuba, Robert Elworthy and Philip Farkas and played with various pit orchestras and ensembles including the Elmo Lunkley Park Band, Lake Harriet Park Orchestra, Luther Seminary Brass, Forest Dale Woodwind Quintet, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and The Minnesota Orchestra.

In another life, he played horn, flugelhorn and 2nd tenor saxophone (to Dave Magnuson) with the Ted Eastman Quartet. The Eastman Two Tenor Dance Library has never been duplicated and is still popular to this day.

At present he is an active composer/arranger and specializes in music for the young band. This proud Wisconsinite has had 13 of his ensemble compositions placed on the Wisconsin School Musician Assn. Official Festival list. He, too, is a founding member of the North Metropolitan Brass Quintet and The Lake Wobegon Brass Band.
