*Åkarp, Schweden, 15. Mai 1908, +Helsingborg, 27. Dezember 1986. Die Musikstudien absolvierte er in Stockholm, in Wien (bei Alban Berg) und in Leipzig. Als Dirigent und Mitarbeiter des Schwedischen Rundfunks (bis 1954), als Professor für Komposition an der Musikakademie in Stockholm (1947 bis 1959) sowie als Musikdirektor der Universität Uppsala (1961 bis 1965) schuf er sich in seinem Land hohes Ansehen.
