Leigh Steiger

Leigh Steiger arranger

A native of Kenmore, Mr. Steiger graduated from Kenmore West High School in 1964, where he joined the American Legion Band of the Tonawaandas, Post 264.

He earned a bachelor's degree in music and a master's degree in music education at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. There he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and served as president his senior year. He was also editor of Eastman's yearbook SCORE.

After graduation, Mr. Steiger joined the Air Force Band stationed in Washington, DC. He was one of the band's leading arrangers, and his transcriptions are still played by the Air Force and American Legion bands.

Some of his work for the bands includes arrangements of the Carnival Overture, the Danse Bacchanale and the Donna Diana Overture.

His military career took him to Strategic Air Command in Omaha, Neb.; Yakota Air Force Base in Japan; and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, as Chief Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force Band.
