Ros Stephen

Ros Stephen is a violinist, violist, composer and sound designer based in London.
Her music has featured widely in film, TV and radio. She writes regularly for production music companies including BMG, Gothic Storm, Colossal Trailer Music, Hybrid Core Music, Ghostwriter, JDM, Pheonician Order Music, Handmade Sounds, Elephant Music, Evolving Sound, Dos Brains, and Motus Music.
Her compositions have been published by Oxford University Press, Schott Music Ltd. and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and have been performed in West End theatre and broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4.
As a violinist she has performed extensively in the UK and abroad over the past 20 years, performing regularly in Londons West-End (including shows at the National Theatre, the Palladium, the Aldwich and the Phoenix Theatre), symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, string quartets, jazz and world music bands. She does regular recording sessions both in orchestras and as a soloist. Recent solo recording work includes Brian Ferry, David Gilmour, Robert Wyatt, Disney, Clint Mansell, Barnaby Taylor, BBC Strictly Come Dancing, BBC Radio 3.
From November 2021-February 2022 Ros will be performing in HEX at the National Theatre, London.
Ros does regular remote recording sessions for composers, production music companies and music supervisors around the world. Shes comfortable playing from sheet music, playing by ear and improvising. She also arranges and records full orchestral strings.
Ros is passionate about educational music. Her series of Globetrotters books for Oxford University Press won the award for Best Educational Publication at the 2011 MIA awards, and she is currently writing a violin method for young children for Schott Music Ltd.
Ros has a 1st class degree and PhD from Bristol University.
