Sergio Gomes holds a Bachelor's degree in Music - Classical Percussion from Unesp (1989), Specialist in Higher Education Methodology from FMU (1998) and a Master's in Jazz Arrangement from William Paterson University (2008). He is currently a professor at Faculdade Santa Marcelina and a visiting professor at Montclair State University in New Jersey. He directs the Big Band of Fundação das Artes de São Caetano, for which he arranges and with which he performed several times in 2010, 11, 2012, and is a professor of popular group practice. In addition to teaching, Sergio works as a composer and instrumentalist in Brazilian jazz groups, and with the group Terra Brasil he was nominated twice for the Latin Grammy, 2003 and 2005. With his quintet, he released the CD "Cidades Imaginárias" also in 2005 ( sergiogomes.com). His book, "New Paths of the Brazilian Drums", was published in English and Spanish by Advance Music and also published in Brazil by Irmãos Vitale.
