Sigfrid Karg-Elert composer

*Oberndorf am Neckar, 21. November 1877, +Leipzig, 9. April 1933. Von Grieg, Reznicek und Reisenauer unterstützt, studierte er Musik am Leipziger Konservatorium. 1902 erhielt er eine Dozentenstelle in Magdeburg, kehrte jedoch 1919 als Lehrer für Komposition und Klavier nach Leipzig zurück. Karg Elert, der als Komponist zunächst die Ideen Debussys, Scrjabins und Schönbergs fortführte, wandte sich im Verlauf seiner Entwicklung der Spätromantik zu. Aufsehen erregte er als Spieler auf dem "Kunstharmonium", für das er auch Lehrwerke verfaßte.
